Atheism Cartoons

This page is entirely self-induglent. It's a series of cartoons and graphics I found from around the internet (i.e. 4chan), all of which either promote atheism (which is a difficult thing to do, as atheism is basically a lack of belief), or attack religion (which is easy to do). Hopefully I'll be able to put together a line or two informing the context of why the cartoon is funny, or at least why it's relevant.

13 October 2009: Circular Reasoning

The circular reasoning is only the start of the problems here. This picture also demonstrates the problem of unfalsifiability, a method of evaluating theories popularised by Karl Popper, which says that if there are no conditions under which your theory could be proven false, then it's not much of a theory. It sounds counter-intuitive, but if you think about it for a while, he's right.

21 December 2009: Bullets are Real

All people who say they believe in gods actually live their normal, everyday lives as though there were no gods. Hence amusing paradoxes such as a bulletproof pope-mobile, or praying for a patient that you've just taken to the hospital, or a church steeple with a lightening rod on it.

28 January 2010: Oppression

Christians often complain that they're having their religious freedoms taken away, or that atheists are chipping away at the fabric of the nation. In reality, the opposite is the case. Christians are dismantling what it means to be American and re-assembling it in their own, Christian image. The people who put together this country were quite clear on the secular nature of their plans.

15 February 2010: Just Another Religion

Again, this is something atheists hear all the time: atheism is just another religion, or atheism requires just as much faith as religion does. This, of course, is bullshit. Atheism is a religion in the same way that off is a television channel. In the same way that bald is a hair colour. In the same way that not collecting stamps is a hobby.
